Hotel Bellevue: A Family and Eco-responsible Story in Marseille
Welcome to the Hotel Bellevue, an authentic haven where the elegance of the 1900s meets a commitment to sustainability. Located at 34 Quai du Port , our charming hotel offers you a privileged vantage point overlooking the Mediterranean and the vibrant spirit of Marseille.
A family-run and independent establishment steeped in history
Like all great stories, ours is rooted in a passion: that of Guy Prache , an architect in love with buildings possessing a soul. His talent has always been to breathe new life into places steeped in history, transforming them into exceptional havens.
Today, the second generation carries on this original "guiding thread" with the same commitment: preserving human-scale establishments in exceptional locations. Driven by this family tradition:
In Marseille: Yona Etienne, who has been based there for almost 20 years, has acquired and now manages the iconic Hôtel Bellevue . A pioneer in environmental commitment, she has made this establishment on the Old Port the first hotel in Marseille to obtain the Green Key label . An eco-designed and welcoming spirit defines the identity of this historic building.
In Chamonix: His brother, Pierre Prache , oversees the Hôtel Jeu de Paume . In this chalet in Lavancher, transformed by their father, he perpetuates the art of hospitality at the summit, also under the aegis of the Green Key label.
In Paris: The Hôtel du Jeu de Paume (Ile Saint-Louis) completes this family triangle, nestled in a superb 17th-century building, formerly a royal jeu de paume court.
From the Old Port to the peaks of Mont Blanc, personalized service and respect for heritage remain our guiding principles. Our hotels are not simply places to stay, but family homes where every carefully chosen object and every detail tells our story.
A stopover steeped in history: Between sky, land and sea
Under the passionate gaze of Yona Etienne, the Hôtel Bellevue carefully preserves the traces of its past as a former sailors' hotel . Long before becoming the eco-responsible refuge it is today, this pre-war building was the anchor point for long-distance travelers stopping over at the Old Port.
As you cross the threshold, history escorts you:
An architectural heritage: You take a listed staircase , the true backbone of the building, which testifies to the elegance of Marseille in bygone days.
A legendary framework: On the top floor, a rare structure: a framework designed from ship masts , recalling that the soul of the hotel is inseparable from maritime adventure.
The spirit of La Caravelle: A true institution from the last century, our bar-restaurant La Caravelle seems frozen in time. Yona has preserved the atmosphere of a post-war "jazz club" and cabaret where naval officers and artists mingled with the locals of Marseille.
Just like her stepfather Guy in Chamonix, Yona has managed to preserve this atmosphere of an inhabited home, where family memories and traces of the maritime past combine to offer a timeless experience.
Committed Hospitality: Yona Prache's Green Legacy
For us, love for our Mediterranean coastline is not a pose, it's a responsibility. Under the leadership of Yona Etienne , the Hôtel Bellevue paved the way in Marseille by becoming the very first establishment in the Phocaean city to be awarded the Green Key label . This initiative, shared with his brother Pierre in Chamonix, stems from a deep family conviction: that the luxury of tomorrow is inseparable from respect for nature.
Gentle Management: We take care of our resources as we take care of our home, drastically reducing plastic and optimizing every energy source to protect our marine environment.
Natural Care: In the privacy of your room, you will find only certified organic and natural toiletries, carefully chosen for your well-being and that of the planet.
The Committed Table: Our flagship restaurant, La Caravelle , extends this philosophy through the Écotable charter . Enjoy an organic and local breakfast, where each product tells the story of the passionate work of our regional producers.
By staying with us, you are not just admiring the view of the Old Port; you are participating in an eco-responsible, sincere and inhabited stopover.
A dream location: A spectacular view of Notre-Dame de la Garde
The hotel Belle-vue rated 3 stars enjoys an ideal location in Marseille: The old port is the beating heart of Marseille, where cultures and traditions intersect. This old building is a warm place for meetings, celebrations, and contemplation, offering breathtaking views of the sparkling sea and the majestic silhouette of Notre-Dame de la Garde. La Caravelle: A Marseilles Institution with the Soul of an Ocean Liner
The Hotel Bellevue beats to the rhythm of its magnificent 1900 wrought-iron staircase , a true listed gem that leads guests to a timeless place. On the first floor, the La Caravelle bar-restaurant reveals a decor of rare authenticity, unchanged since the 1920s.
Much more than just an establishment, it's an immersion into the golden age of maritime travel:
A Jewel Box of Wood and Copper: From the moment you enter, the atmosphere is hushed, enveloped by original, dark, and warm wood paneling reminiscent of the officers' messes on legendary ships. The zinc bar and touches of copper, patinated by time, invite intimate conversations.
"Nautical Art" decoration: True to the Prache family's spirit of collecting, the place is adorned with models of old boats, period murals and maritime souvenirs that tell the story of this thousand-year-old port.
The Balcony of History: From this cabaret-jazz-style haven, one accesses the famous balcony-terrace. It is here, between the polished wood and the stone of the typically Marseilles façade, that one overlooks the Old Port for a suspended breakfast or a legendary aperitif facing Notre-Dame de la Garde.
A true institution where artists, sailors and lovers of Marseille meet, La Caravelle is not just a place where people crowd: it is a sensory stopover maintained with passion, where every detail celebrates the elegance of the last century.
Magical Locations: At the Heart of Authenticity
The Hotel Bellevue isn't just on the port, it's its soul. Its location is the ideal starting point for experiencing Marseille intensely, just like the other gems in the family, which always favor exceptional locations:
In Marseille, from our quays: You are at the foot of the Panier district (a 5-minute walk) to stroll through the historic streets. The MuCEM awaits you via a direct walk along the quays, while the Maritime Shuttles , right in front of the hotel, will take you to the Frioul Islands or the Calanques.
