Photos from the very beginning of the 1900s already show the small Provençal building. Placed on the quay of the Old Port of Marseille, it displays its “hotel Belle-Vue ". For those who fall under its spell, preserving its authenticity is obvious!
The walls of the hotel which tell of Mediterranean Gaul
Paintings dating back several decades cover the upper part of the walls of her restaurant-bar, La Caravelle , stretching for several meters . The smiling owner decided at the beginning of 2022 to have these murals restored.
Thus, once cleaned, we notice three women on a frail boat preparing to dock near Sainte-Marie de la Mer around the year 250... Elsewhere, we see Marc Antoine and Lépide ready to share the territories of Provence between them , or even Charles V who, much later, invaded these same territories.
Preservation, ongoing work
Who would have guessed, apart from a few history buffs, that the oak frame supporting the hotel's roof had a previous life: the beams and posts were previously masts and yards of a boat… There was no question of neglecting the maintenance, by professionals, of these "straight grain" woods which are the soul of the house!
Two years ago, certain wall woodwork as well as the Bar benefited from a state-of-the-art restoration. The furniture, including some 20s tables with lion's paws, is regularly pampered, the mirrors pitted by time... are left as is.
