Christmas in Marseille — a festive calendar for everyone

Marseille lights up to welcome the holiday season, and December promises to be particularly rich in entertainment and emotions. 

Christmas lights & decorations

From the end of November, the streets, quays, and iconic landmarks of the city center are ablaze with lights. The illuminations will remain on every evening until the beginning of January, creating a magical setting for winter strolls. 

Christmas markets & local crafts

• The traditional Christmas market It sets up on the lower part of the Canebière, from the end of November to the beginning of January: about fifty chalets bring together artisans, creators, local producers — jewelry, decorations, gourmet treats, gifts… A great idea to find original gifts.  
• The highly anticipated Nativity Scene and Figurine Fair, held on the quayside, extends the Provençal tradition until early January. A must-see event for lovers of figurines, nativity scenes, and local traditions.  

For children – magic & workshops

The Children's Village is setting up on Place Bargemon: face painting, decoration workshops, Santa's chalet, bubbles, fun activities… A free space suitable for families, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 13pm and 14pm to 20pm until December 20 — then every day during the school holidays. 

Shows, concerts and a dazzling light show

In early December, the magic of Christmas also comes to life in shows and cultural events. Here are a few highlights not to be missed:

• The Gospel Philharmonic Experience — free concert on Saturday, December 20th on the Old Port: a musical moment between gospel and classical, for the whole family.  
• After the concert, a spectacular drone and fireworks display will light up the Marseille sky at nightfall — a magical finale to a December dedicated to celebration.  
• The same weekend, a nighttime light trail from the Old Port to Castellane will offer a magical stroll among the illuminations, music and decorations — a great idea for an outing to immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit.
