It's a word that comes up a lot in Marseille. Rehabilitation. In this context, the time has come to breathe new life into Gare Saint-Charles and the Porte d'Aix district.
After giving a boost to the Joliette district with the MUCEM , the Major Cathedral with its vaulted ceilings, and the sublime Docks , and then to the Panier district with the arrival of new shops, it is one of the city's gateways that is now receiving all the attention. It must be said that there is a consensus around it: action is needed to restore it to its rightful place in Marseille.
The Saint Charles district rehabilitation project includes the enhancement of the Arc de Triomphe , with the creation of a wooded, sports and festive park.
57 new plane trees will be planted around the monument, with the aim of preserving the historic axis of avenue Camille Pelletan and rue d'Aix. It was a wish of the Historical Monuments.
A new municipal park and a restored Arc de Triomphe
The goal is to allow residents to take ownership of a new green space with sports areas and a skatepark. The future Saint-Charles Park will resemble Borély Park and the 26th Centenary Park. It will be enclosed, guarded, and managed by the Municipality.
The other positive aspect is being able to use the Arc de Triomphe again . The monument will be truly showcased and used for official ceremonies.
For the moment, works dominate in this sector.
They are expected to be completed at the end of next year.
