“I turned my head and let my gaze wander towards the horizon. Where the sea becomes darker. Thicker. I told myself that the solution to all the contradictions of existence was there, in this sea. My Mediterranean. And I saw myself melting into her. Dissolve me, and will dissolve forever. »
Jean-Claude Izzo is the herald of the contemporary school of Marseille detective novels. Jean-Claude Izzo is a journalist, novelist, journalist, essayist and lyricist. He was born on June 20, 1945 in Marseille in the Panier district, to a father of Neapolitan origin and a Spanish mother. Graduated from a CAP “milling turner” Izzo was hired in 1968 at the Librairie on rue Grignan. He is part of this new generation which has chosen the noir novel as an expression to better bring out the light and humanity of its characters who touch the universal and who are deeply anchored in reality, in Marseille. Often a solitary stroller, he passionately introduces us, through the eyes of his hero Fabio Montale, to a bright and dark, endearing and violent, multicultural Marseille, rich in a fascinating and contrasting universe. Feelings which are expressed when reading his works including the trilogy which made him famous: Total Khéops in 1995, Soléa and Chourmo in 1998, Marseille is his lady of the heart.
