Architects, designers and artists welcomed at CIRVA

Since its creation, Cirva has welcomed artists, designers or architects , who experiment with new compositions with glass and thus develop their personal vision of art.

For this exhibition, the works of sixteen artists who came to Cirva for residencies between 1986 and 2016 are presented on the ground floor and upper floor of the Cantini Museum.

Each room of the exhibition is focused around the work of one or more artists.

It is an opportunity to place glass work in a broader perspective with a vision expressed by artists who are not glassmakers or specialists in this material.

A collection of 600 works over 30 years of existence

A contemporary art center created in 1983 at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, CIRVA is located in Marseille in a former industrial building, in the heart of the Euroméditerranée district in La Joliette.

Its objective is to welcome artists in residence so that they can experiment with creation with glass, a difficult material to master.

In total, CIRVA has housed nearly 200 artists and today possesses a collection of 600 objects . These are presented to the public through numerous national and international exhibitions.

Some of the works have been on display at the MUCEM in the Mediterranean Gallery since 2013 .

Finally, CIRVA also publishes books on glassworking techniques , on the artists hosted and on glass objects, such as vases and mirrors.

The Cantini Museum is located in Marseille opposite your hotel, on the opposite bank of the Old Port. Go back up rue Breteuil for around fifty meters then take rue Grignan on your left. Good visit !
