Marseille: the parks have the Ecojardin label

Ecology is at the heart of the concerns of Marseille residents. In the 70s, the city of Marseille created a three-hectare park that respected ecological criteria and was one of the first to be labeled “Ecojardin”.

The Ecojardin label, a reference in France

The EcoJardin label has very quickly become, since its creation at the beginning of 2012, a reference in terms of ecological management of green spaces. It encourages municipalities to adopt environmentally friendly practices and to promote the work of green space managers. A labeled park then naturally raises awareness among its users of sustainable development issues. In December 2013, 141 French green spaces were labeled “ EcoGarden ».

Ecojardin labeling criteria

Many criteria are mandatory for obtaining the Label. They concern several areas of management such as soil, water (watering, sanitation, closed circuit fountain, etc.), fauna and flora (proposed biodiversity, prohibited products, etc.), as well as the training of park staff.

Marseille parks with eco-labelling

It was in 1976 that the city created the Central Park of Bonneveine. It will be labeled Ecojardin in 2012. The basic principle of this three-hectare park, of modern design, was to compose low amplitude ground movements from a hexagonal terraced structure. This results in very diverse atmospheres.

As for the Saint Cyr and Moline Parks, located respectively in the 10nd and 12nd districts of Marseille, this year they were awarded the famous national Ecojardin label. The Parc Saint Cyr estate was, in the last century, the property of Auguste-Paul-Alfonse Baux. Covering 3,7 hectares, there are French gardens, ponds and water jets, a terrace decorated with basins, as well as a playground and parking lot.
