This is what we offer you from this summer the museum underwater world of Marseille. The principle ? you visit statues submerged 5 meters deep at the Catalans beach in Marseille.
Art under water
This underwater museum is a first in France.
The works are signed by several local artists, from Marseille, Avignon and even Port de Bouc.
Their sculptures reach 1 meters in height. They are all linked to the theme of the sea.
To see them, you will have to swim to the site.
On site, a buoy and a handrail will be installed, so that you can swim and admire the works in complete safety.
They are made from neutral PH marine cement to preserve underwater fauna and flora.
They should also quickly serve as new shelters for fish.
Which will make visiting these works different each time.

Opening on June 8 in Marseille
Other underwater museums exist around the world.
This is the case off the island of Lanzarote in the Canaries and in Cancun in Mexico.
The statues in these two underwater museums are signed by the artist Jason DeCairnes Taylor.
It was he who was also approached in Marseille at the start of the project more than three years ago.
The opening to the public is planned in Marseille on the Plage des Catalans on June 8 on the occasion of World Oceans Day.
The objective of this day launched in 2009 by the United Nations General Assembly is to raise public awareness of better management of ocean resources.
Every year, June 8 is the occasion for events around the world to better understand the sea and better preserve its resources.
- To discover the works, you must swim about a hundred meters from the beach.
