Marseille, the authentic capital of santons
The Marseille Santon Fair is the oldest of all events in Provence.
It has been held since November 17 under the windows of the Belle Vue hotel.
An ideal walk that takes you to the MUCEM. You discover the traditional know-how of the santon makers who exhibit their creations.

The first fair would have taken place in Marseille, 216 years ago now. In 1803 exactly! At that time, there were only 3 figurine sellers in Marseille. Everyone gathered on the Cours Saint Louis located about ten minutes walk from the Belle Vue hotel.
The certified Santons of Provence!
A certification “ Santon of Provence » is in place on the market.
The 26 santon makers, who benefit from it, attest to operating a workshop in Provence to produce their santons.
They undertake on their honor that all their figurines, nativity scenes and accessories are made in their region.
The Foire aux Santons de Provence is open until January 6 from 10 a.m. to 19 p.m.
The Christmas market next to the Santon Fair
Right next door, towards the shade house, you can wander between the chalets of the Christmas market.
At nightfall, the walk is very nice, the chalets and the Ferris wheel are lit up, they make you want to let yourself be transported by the magic of Christmas.
In total there are 55 chalets. So many opportunities to make your gifts!
Numerous events are planned between now and the end of the year to bring life to this market which is open every day.
